Five local groups are set to benefit following the success of the Salsa Sorensen Charity Golf Day on Sunday 18th August. Over 200 players and sponsors collectively raised over $22,500 for the Salsa Sorensen Association Inc, a Queensland Association aimed at supporting clubs, groups and charities in the Douglas Shire.

Salsa Sorensen Association Inc President Jenni Sorensen is proud to announce that the following groups will be the beneficiaries from this year’s major fundraiser:

  • Douglas Shire Hockey Club for new sporting equipment
  • GBR Legacy for VR Headsets & Camera Equipment to assist in their reef research projects
  • Douglas Shire Motor Sports for a new shed
  • Mossman State School P&C Association for new metal signs
  • Mossman & District Gymnastics Club for a new PA System

As successful applicants in the 2017 the Miallo State School purchased new books for their library.

Port Douglas State School - Tuck Shop

The Port Douglas State School Tuck Shop were successful in their application for funding in 2017 to enhance the space for the kids to enjoy their lunch. This lovely mural was created on the wall surrounding the tuck shop kiosk.

Junior Crocs

In 2017 the Port Douglas Junior Crocs AFL team successfully submitted an application to the Salsa Sorensen Association Inc to fund the purchase of new jerseys for the tea. In addition, some equipment and drinking containers were also purchased on their behalf.

GBR Legacy 2019 Beneficiaries

GBR Legacy

As recipients of the 2019 funding round, the team at GBR Legacy will use the funds to purchase underwater camera equipment to further their research capabilities.

Their mission: To be a global leader in marine expeditions, delivering innovative science, education and public engagement to accelerate actions vital to the future survival of coral reefs.
